The Conscience For Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) in partnership with Shehu Musa Yar’ adua Foundation has called for the establishment of Kogi Television to boost information dissemination across the state.
This was contained in a Communiqué issued at the end of the 6th Quarter Review Meeting it organized for Media Practitioners/Civil Society Organizations in Kogi State to address Anti corruption, Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria held at the NUJ Press Centre in Lokoja on Tuesday.
The Communiqué expressed worry over the inability of Kogi state to establish its own Television station since creation 28 years ago, stressing that “Kogi is the only state in Nigeria that has no TV of its own”
The Forum also decried poor state of the existing Radio Kogi and the State owned Graphic Newspaper in terns of equipment, quality production and professional staff.
The Communiqué further urged Media Organizations in Nigeria to focus more on dissemination of information that would reduce to the barest minimum the alarming rate of corruption.
It condemned the action of Kogi State government for failure to constitute the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and the inability of government to conduct Local Government Elections in the last four years.
The Communiqué equally cautioned Kogi Government on misplacement of priorities and promotion of illegalities that had brought untold hardship for the citizens since it came on board four years ago.
