The police on Thursday arraigned a driver, Godwin Abuur, in an Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, for allegedly assaulting a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Transport in Abuja.
The police charged Abuur with wrongful restrain and indecent assault.
According to the First Information Report, Abuur, allegedly committed the offence on Dec. 27, 2019 at Federal Ministry of Transport, Abuja.
“On Dec. 27. 2019 at about 1.30 p.m. one Phoebe Nwandu `F` of the Public Service Institute Quarters, Abuja,reported the matter at the Dutse Police Station.
‘`That on Nov. 15 2019, you went to Nwandu’s office at Federal Ministry of Transport and blocked her access into her office and later went wild and pushed her on the chest.
“You have thereby committed the offence contrary to sections 254, and 268 of the penal code,” the report read in part.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, urged the court to remand the defendant at a correctional facility, adding that the accused person was granted administrative bail and he used the opportunity to harass the nominal complaint.
The Presiding Upper Area Curt judge, Mr Gambo Garba, adjourned the matter until Feb. 13, for hearing.
