A High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced Ndubuisi Nwankwo (aka James Williams), an applicant, to one-year imprisonment for cheating an alien of 20,000 Euros (about N8 million).
Justice Bello Kawu, sentenced Nwankwo, after he pleaded guilty to cheating.
Kawu however gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N1 million.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Fatima Gwaram, told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Haune Moses, a Dutchman.
Gwaram said that the defendant sometimes in 2015 pretended to be James Williams, a Briton and created fake Yahoo mail ([email protected])and under the assumed character obtained the sum of 20,000 Euros.
She said the defendant obtained the sum of money from Moses under the pretence of delivering oil in turkey in which he knew was false.
The Prosecutor, said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 320(b) and Punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code.
