Even as it continues to battle forces incacerating journalists and writers in the country, the Nigerian Centre of PEN International, aka PEN Nigeria, has concluded plans to commemorate this year’s International Migrants Day. The event is slated for Wednesday, December 18, 2019, and will be held at Vernacular Art-space Laboratory, Ajoke down down, Iwaya, Yaba (Ajoke down down Bus stop, via Sabo).
According to the President, PEN Nigeria, Folu Agoi, the occasion will be used to wrap up the Centre’s activities for the year, adding that its 2020 programme will also be made known to the public.
“The special reading, with which PEN Nigeria intends to round off its programmes for the year, is meant to draw attention to the local and global issues connected with migration. The 2020 calendar of PEN Nigeria, containing the projects, programmes and other activities planned by the the Association for 2020, will also be unveiled at the event,” he said.
The Association’s President also disclosed that individuals from all walks of life such as scholars and writers, including critics and students, were expected to make presentations and share knowledge and perspectives on a wide range of issues pertaining to migration. Causes and effects of migration, climate change, displaced persons, brain drain, labour migration, rights and opportunities of migrants among others will equally be discussed.
“We invite the general public to a special reading as the event will be spiced up by readings from creative works and exciting performances,” Agoi added.
