The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned 30-year-old Tosin Durodola, for allegedly breaking into his step mother’s apartment with an intent to steal.
Durodola, who resides at No. 12 Ikale Street, Ipaja, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, house breaking and breach of peace before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large around 12.03 p.m. on August 14 at his residence.
Unah said, “the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by breaking and entering into the apartment of the complainant, one Mrs Bosede Durodola.”
He said that the defendant broke into the apartment when the complainant was not at home.
“The complainant was told what the defendant did and she reported the case to the police,” he said.
Unah said the offences violated Sections 168, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (revised).
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 168 stipulates six months jail term for beach of the peace, while Section 411 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Fashola ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case to January 22 for mention.
