A Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Wednesday sentenced a security guard, Abdullahi Nasiru, 25, to four months in a correctional centre over criminal intimidation and alleged theft.
Nasiru, a resident of Argungu road, Kaduna, pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal intimidation, but denied the allegation of stealing pillow cases and bed sheet.
The Judge, Murtala Nasiru, however, gave him an option to pay N10, 000 as fine and also pay the complainant N5, 000 as compensation.
Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Sgt. Aliyu Ibrahim, told the court that one Zuwaira Muhammad, also of Argungu road, reported the incident to the Magajin Gari Police Division on Nov. 22.
Muhammad complained to the police that on Nov. 21, at about 2:00 p.m., she discovered that her bed sheet and two pillow cases, valued at N3, 000, were stolen from the clothes dryer.
She said that she was informed by one of her neighbours, one Salihu Muhammad that he had seen Nasiru with the same items that were allegedly missing.
The Police said the complainant confronted him, but he denied the allegation and threatened to kill her neighbour for accusing him of theft.
“Nasiru picked a log of wood and threatened to kill Salihu Muhammad, which is an offence punishable under sections 271 and 377 of the Kaduna State Penal Code law.
“We could not provide a witness to the theft allegations but we are praying the court to sanction him accordingly on the intimidation charge which he pleaded guilty to.
“He should also be made to pay compensation,’’ the prosecution said.
