3 men in court for allegedly stealing N500,000

Two persons, Victor Ogbonna and Iyabo Eluwa, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole 500 blouses, were on Thursday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The first defendant, a male, Ogbonna (18), resident of Ogudu area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, shop breaking and theft.

Also, Eluwa, 52, (female), resident of Ogudu area of Lagos, is facing a count charge of receiving stolen property.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the Ogbonna committed the offences on Nov. 17 at 4.00a.m at Agboyi Road, Ogudu in Lagos.

Lucky said that Ogbonna and some others still at large broke into the shop of Mrs Rosemary Dehinbo through the ceiling to steal.

“They stole 500 pieces of blouse valued at N4 million.

“Eluwa dishonestly received seven pieces of blouse from the defendant valued at N56, 000, knowing fully well that it was a stolen goods,” Lucky said.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 287, 310, 328(1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, granted the defendants bail of N200, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje said that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

The court adjourned hearing in the case until Dec. 18.
