A Washington, US-based non-governmental organisation, Victoria House Foundation, has concluded plans to donate 10 sets of computers with internet connectivity to Iroko Community Grammar School, Iroko,Ibadan, Oyo State.
The school Principal, Elder Oshinbunmi, confirmed this is a sratement.
The management of the foundation, which connects students in the developing world to technology in order to empower and prepare them for the global workforce , said it would be undertaking the same gesture for Government Secondary School,Television,Sabo,Kaduna State in the northern part of Nigeria.
According to the VHF’s Director of Project,Mr.Mac Okonta, the computers will be presented to Iroko Community Grammar School management on Thursday, November 21.
The systems,he said, would also be internet-ready, with a plan to foot the bill for necessary data for the next few months.
Established 53 years ago, Iroko Community Grammar School has produced many prominent Nigerians that are making waves in various fields endeavour.
The mixed school has, however, suffered a lot of setback in terms of depreciation in infrastructure and manpower.
In recent years, old students, through the Iroko Community Grammar School Alumni Association, have been ralying round, providing some facilities and services to uplift its standard.
With the intervention of the VHF, however, they hope other concerned people and organisations will contribute their own quotas to rebuild the school.
“We believe in technology as a tool to provide skills needed to make a meaningful change in our world. We work with public schools and the community in need, by providing them with technological tools to enhance learning and educational opportunities. Our focus is on the Advancement of Education through Technology in the developing regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, the Caribbean and inner city schools in the United States.”
Since its was founded in 2013, VHF has served as a vital resource in providing public schools with computers and internet access as well as other peripherals for the advancement of education,” the foundation noted.
