Ondo State House of Assembly has amended the Ondo State Pension Reform Law, 2014, to conform with the Pension Reform Act, 2014.
At a plenary sitting of the house on Wednesday, presided over by the Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, the bill to amend the Pension law was committed to the committee of the whole house, which looked at the two documents and corrected the state laws.
Oleyelogun noted that the Pension Act was signed into law in the year 2004 at the federal level and was domesticated in the state in the year 2014.
The Speaker, however, said that some parts of the state pension law was at variance with that at the federal level, therefore requiring corrections.
He said that the 2019 amendments were justifiable and would regulate pension matters in the state along with the Ondo State 2014 Pension Reform Law.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr Jamiu Maito, representing Akoko North West 1 constituency, moved the motion for the bill to pass through third reading and at the same time be passed into law.
The motion was seconded by Mr Akintomide Akinrogunde, a lawmaker representing Okitipupa state constituency 1.
Thereafter, a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and for matters connected therewith scaled second reading.
The lawmakers subsequently committed the bill to the house committee on health for scrutiny and directed that the committee report back to the house in two weeks time.
Speaking on the bill, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Dr Biodunon Faleye, representing Akure North, underscored the need for the primary health care in the state to be strengthened since it was the closest to the people at the grassroots.
Faleye said that there was need for the primary health care institutions to stand on their own for proper coordination and monitoring as well as to function well in order to ensure effective service delivery.
