The refusal of a lady to wear a helmet given her by the rider of a commercial bike – okada – she boarded in Abeokuta, Ogun State , on Tuesday has sparked a debate on Facebook.
Politician and activist, Tunde Oladunjoye, brought the matter to limelight when he shared the story on Facebook.
He also took and shared the photos republished here.
Apart from the fact that the lady did not wear the helmet given her, she was also texting as sighted in one of the photos.
This further alarmed Oladunjoye, who expected other concerned people to discourage the act.
Comments greeting the post however show that many folks reason with the lady, as they try to justify her idea.
According to them, she might be afraid of ritualists who make people disappear once they wear helmets.
Ever outspoken Oladunjoye had noted:
“This lady, sighted in Abeokuta yesterday, probably felt the helmet is either for decoration or her head/hair was too precious to be touched by the helmet. If her head/hair was actually precious, she should have been wise to use the helmet. The managers of O’pay should educate their riders to insist that their passengers must put on the helmet before starting the ride. The helmet is certainly not for show.
“Even at then, she was busy texting on her phone during the ride!”
Here are some of the comments sparked by the admonition (sic):
“A story was once in circulation about a woman who disappeared immediately after putting on the helmet. The rider was caught and almost beaten to death. There was also a photograph attached”
“No One Prays for Evil Either, But if Accident Happens Now Dem go say dere Great Grandmother 4 Village Don hold dere Remote.”
“True, people need to be educated on that. She may be afraid of being a victim of ritualist.”
“It might be the rider does not have cap to put underneath the helmet Sir. It happens.”
