Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of the state.

Akeredolu made the plea on Monday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Ikare Akoko during the terminal parade of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) orientation course.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Dotun Owanikin, urged the corps members to contribute productively during the service year.

“Your predecessors made sacrifices that have endeared the scheme in the hearts of all and sundry.

“I hope you will not disappoint the citizens of this country who have implicit trust in your capabilities to serve the nation relentlessly.

“It is expected that you will cultivate a healthy relationship with your host communities.

“There is need for you to integrate and appreciate the culture and traditions of the people, while at the same time encouraging you to live peacefully with them and refrain from engaging in local politics,” he said.

Akeredolu said the state would continually ensure the security and welfare of corps members deployed to the state.

The governor said he also appreciated the immense and invaluable contributions of the management of the scheme for proper monitoring and grooming of the corps members during the orientation course.

”My dear corps members, as good ambassadors of your families and the scheme, I enjoin you to flee from all negative acts that could tarnish the good image your predecessors have toiled to build over the years.

“Let your conduct and moral rectitude be a source of joy to the entire nation.

” I want to assure you all that our administration will see to your excellent hospitality by government and the good people of Ondo state,” he said.
