Police spokesman, Abdulkhalil Asir, on Wednesday said militants killed five pro-government militiamen in Dasht-e-Qala district of the northern Takhar province.
According to the official, the Taliban insurgents targeted security personnel in the district killing five pro-government militiamen including their commander, Hakim Arab.
The attacking militants had also suffered casualties, the official asserted, but he could not give an exact figure.
Taliban militants, who have intensified activities in the relatively violent Takhar province, haven’t commented.
