Man in the dock for stealing phones

An Ikeja Magistates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old unemployed man, Kudus Olalekan, in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, following his admission to stealing two phones valued at N92,000.
Olalekan, whose address was not stated, pleaded guilty to the two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing before the court.
Magistrate, Mrs O. A Aderibigbe, consequently ordered that the defendant should be kept behind bars pending sentence at the next date of adjournment on Oct. 23.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Mojirade Edeme told the court that the defendant and one other person yet to be apprehended, icommitted the offences on Aug. 26 at Charity, Oshodi, Lagos.
She said that the defendant and his friend conspired to steal valuables belonging to Mrs Kudirat Shakirat.
“The defendant stole two phones valued at N92,000 and cash of N2,000 totaling N94,000,” Edeme said.
The prosecutor said that the defendant unlawfully entered the complainant’s apartment in the night and demanded her phones and cash.
“They threatened to harm her if she refused to comply and out of fear of the unknown, the complainant surrendered her valuables.
“After they left her apartment, she raised the alarm and people pursed them.
“The defendant was arrested while his accomplice escaped with the valuables, ” the prosecutor told the court.
The alleged offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 287 carries three years imprisonment for stealing while section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.
