Federal Government will soon establish a biotechnology centre in Zamfara, Alhaji Kabiru Maipalace, the lawmaker representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, has said.

Maipalace made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Monday.

According to him, the National Biotechnology Development Agency, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, has the responsibility of establishing the centre.

“You know biotechnology centres train farmers, especially in dry season farming, poultry fish farming and other bio-aquatic activities.

“I am aware that almost all the states of the federation have this centre except Zamfara despite our claim to be a centre of farming.

“As a federal lawmaker, I wrote a letter to the agency requesting for the establishment of the centre in the state and the request was granted.

The agency sent its supervision team led by Dr Nasir Ibrahim, a Senior Director with the agency to visit the state for further actions.

“On their arrival, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello, where it had a fruitful discussion with the state government on the centre.

“We visited the proposed temporary office of the centre, allocated by the state government, at GRA area, Gusau.

“We also took the team to Wanke area in Gusau as the proposed permanent site of the centre, which we chose because of its closeness to a large water source and other relavant requirements.

“God willing, with the intervention of the state government led by Alhaji Bello Matawalle, all the arrangements for the centre have been concluded,” he said.

According to him, the centre is expected to provide many job opportunities for the teeming youths and also improve capacity building of farmers in the state.
