Team Lagos wins 9 gymnastics medals, 16 in swimming — LSSC

The investment in school sports by the Lagos State Government is paying off as Team Lagos for the gymnastics event at the ongoing National Youth Games in Ilorin has won nine medals, an official has said.

The Director, of Public Relations, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Titi Oshodi, said this on Friday in Lagos that the gymnastics team gave a good account of themselves during the showpiece.

Report has it that Team Lagos stormed the 5th National Youth Games in Ilorin with 248-man contingent.

The contingent comprising athletes, coaches, association secretaries and other officials are competing in 33 individual and team sports.

Team Lagos is participating in the Games for the second consecutive year and hopes to better their overall second place position last year.

Oshodi said the team had started brightly in all the events during the competition with the total of 27 medals.

“We are able to do well in gymnastics, the team got three gold, five silver and one bronze medals.

“In all, the team now has eight gold, 15 silver and three bronze medals. One of our boys also got silver in Judo.

“Also, the swimming team dominated the podium as they won five gold, nine silver and five bronze making 16 medals in the event,’’ she said.

Report has it that Semilore Ogundipe won two gold, Favour Adeju also won two gold, while Shedrack Simon, John Agnes, Abdul Jabal Adams and Naomi one each and all took the podium for silver medals.
