The Imo Chapter of Global Initiative for Harmony in Nigeria (GIHN) says its objective is to curb insecurity, promote peace and harmony across the nation.
Mrs Elizabeth Omini, its Founder and General Commandant, who spoke at the maiden summit of the group in Owerri on Wednesday, described the group as a security outfit.
She said the summit was aimed at educating the public and members of other security agencies in the state of the group’s involvement in tackling insecurity, and promoting peace and harmony.
She said that since the inauguration of GIHN in Aug. 16 2014, some remarkable achievements had been made in promoting peace and harmony across the nation.
Omini said that the group, as a new “paramilitary agency” in the country, would synergise with other security agencies in the state to fight crime and promote harmony.
She used the opportunity of the summit to announced the appointment of a new state coordinator of the agency in Imo, Juliet Nwadike.
She said that the former state coordinator was recently promoted and had been transferred to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Omini said that Nwadike and other corps members had been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the security outfit got to its peak in the state.
A Patron of GIHN, Mr Ejike Onyeke, said that the group would soon be formally recognised by the Federal Government.
According to him, a bill will soon be passed by the National Assembly to legalise the activities of the group across the federation.
“GIHN is poised to enhance peace in the nation.
” Current and intending members of the initiative should fast track their membership registration processes and online verification without further delay,” he said.
