Oman signs deal with Vodafone to set up 3rd mobile operator

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on Thursday that Oman Future Telecommunications and the British Telecommunications Company, Vodafone, has signed a strategic partnership agreement to set up the third mobile operator in the country.

The Omani ministry said on its Twitter account that the new mobile operator would come under the name of Vodafone Oman, which would provide basic services for the operation of the new company.

This, it said, would include: the use of the brand as well as technical knowledge and operational support provided by the British strategic partner.

The ministry confirmed that the contract period between the two partners would last for a period of 15 years and that the company would commence operations next year.

It added that the company would be an operating partner without owning a shareholding capital of Vodafone Oman.
