The Burial of Zimbabwe’s former president, Robert Mugabe, will hold next week in his village and not at a national monument for liberation heroes.
Confirming this, his family said he would be buried on Sunday night followed by a private burial either on Monday or Tuesday.
Mugabe, 95, died on Sept. 6 in Singapore where he had been receiving medical treatment since April.
“His body will lie in state at Kutama on Sunday night.., followed by a private burial — either Monday or Tuesday — no National Heroes Acre. That’s the decision of the whole family,” his nephew Leo Mugabe told AFP.

According to the country’s tradition, national heroes and heroines are buried at the National Heroes Acre, a hill top in the capital Harare but families can opt for another burial place.
He ruled Zimbabwe for nearly four decades until November 2017 when he resigned.
