A 31-year-old mechanic, Ademola Adesinya, on Friday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Minna for allegedly driving a customer’s car without his consent and damaging it.
The police charged Adesinya with two counts of criminal breach of trust and mischief, contrary to sections 312 and 327 of the Penal Code Law.
The Police Counsel, Insp. Thomas Peter, told the court that the complainant, Mallam Abubakar Imam reported the matter at the Tudun Wada station on July 30.
Peter told the court that the complainant gave the accused his Mercedenz Benz car valued at N950, 000 for repairs.
He noted that the accused drove the car without the owner’s consent and crashed it.
Peter said that due to the state of the car, the accused was forced to buy the car for N750, 000 but he has only paid N430, 000.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, Magistrate Murtala Ibrahim, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Ibrahim adjourned the matter until Sept. 30 for further mention.
