A lawmaker, Abayomi Akinruntan, has lauded Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on the appointment Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugboland, as Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas.
Akinruntan, representing Ilaje Constituency 1 in the assembly, described Olugbo’s appointment as another confirmation of the love which the governor has for people of Ilaje Local Government area.
The lawmaker also thanked the governor for overlooking the intrigues in some sections in Ilaje Kingdom.
He said that the appointment of Olugbo would no doubt calm nerves and promote peace and unity in the land.
“I am elated that the governor has deemed it fit to appoint our revered monarch as the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas.
“This shows the love he has for our people; and on behalf of people of Ilaje, I want to specially thank the governor for this honour,” Akinruntan said.
He said the appointment of Olugbo as the Council of Obas’ chairman was coming barely two months to the 10th Coronation Anniversary of the monarch.
The lawmaker also congratulated the monarch on the appointment, urging him not to relent in his efforts at promoting peace, unity and development of his kingdom and people.
He urged the monarch to use his new office to promote the culture and institution of obaship and engender unity among the obas in Ondo State and in Yorubaland.
The appointment came at expiration of the two-year single tenure and the subsequent dissolution of the council by the governor on Sept. 10.
NAN reports that Akeredolu had immediately approved the constitution of a new council and the appointment of the Olugbo as the Chairman, for a period of two years.
The new chairman’s tenure begins on Sept. 13.
