A 26- year-old applicant, Sulaiman Isiaka, who allegedly pretended to be ill and stole a nurse’s phone valued at N26,000, on Monday, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The police charged Isiaka, an applicant, who lives at Mushin, Lagos,with theft.
The prosecutor, Insp Mojirade Edeme, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 26 at Agege, Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant strolled into a private hospital under the pretence of wanting to see a doctor and stole a cell phone belonging Nurse Joke Idowu, who was on duty.
When the police dialed the complainant’s number, he said, it rand.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes three years jail term for stealing for any convicted offender.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O Aderibigbe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept., 30 for hearing.
