2 artisans appear in court for alleged burglary

A mechanic, Ahmed Lawal, 18 and a carpenter, Sunday Ogunwale, 25, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged burglary.

Lawal and Ogunwale are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug. 15 at No. 1 Oyewunmi St., Gberigbe Community in Ikorodu.

Egunjobi said that the defendants burgled the NaijaBet shop and stole items worth N350,000.

He said that they stole three plasma televisions, two laptops, three decoders and two printers belonging to the complainant, Mr John Uchena.

“A security guard apprehended the duo when they were about to drive off with the items,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Reports has it that section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, section 397 provides seven years for burglary, while section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.

The magistrate, Mr A. O. Ogbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Ogbe said one of the sureties must own a house within the court’s jurisdiction and the other surety a relative of the defendant.

He adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for mention.
