The Yobe governor, MaiMala Buni, has disclosed his administration’s determination to empower youths in the state.
Buni made the disclosure on Thursday in Potiskum at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps members of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) deplored to the state.
Buni was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Youths, Sports, Social and Community Development, Mr Galtima Ali.
The governor, who said his administration recognised the importance of the youth as a veritable tool for nation building,described NYSC as a beacon of hope in Nigeria.
“NYSC remains a beacon of hope in our country’s quest for a united and prosperous nation.
“The scheme has in the past 46 years exposed millions of youths to the cultures and traditions of different societies and at the same time impacted in them different skills and experience.
“We shall soon roll out programmes that will strengthen the visions of our youths and define their path to greatness.
“We will put in place many beneficial interventions that will increase the skills, self-confidence and self-sufficiency to improve their lives,” he said.
The governor urged the corps members to integrate,freely, with their various host communities and participate actively in their developmental efforts.
“I have no doubt that you will have a rich and rewarding experience in your own time. I wish you a successful course and a rewarding service year.”
The Yobe State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Adzer, advised the 900 corps members that had registered so far to take advantage of the activities lined up in the orientation time-table to acquire more experience.
“I advise you to take advantage of these and other activities lined up in the orientation time-table to make the best use of your one year of sacrificial service to your fatherland.
“All the activities have been deliberately designed to equip you very well to be able to squarely face any challenge which may come your way during your sojourn in Yobe State”.
