The police on Monday arraigned a minor, who allegedly broke into his uncle’s room and stole a Tecno cell phone valued at N85,000, in an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant, who lives with his uncle, Mr Udoma Michael, at Ona-Ara Street at Idimu area of Lagos, is charged with burglary, theft and threat to life.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 10 at about 10 a.m., at his residence.
He alleged that the defendant broke into his uncle’s room and stole a Tecno phone valued at N85,000 and N50,000 cash.
Emuerhi alleged that the defendant also threatened to kill his uncle.
He said that the matter was reported at the Idimu police division and the defendant arrested.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions sections 56 (1) and (2), 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for offenders if convicted.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until Sept. 30 for mention.
