A pastor who ran away after allegedly killing his mother in Anambra State on Tuesday has been arrested.
Pastor Nwabueze Anaka was said to have killed the mother, Grace Anaka, with a dagger, for reasons not yet known.
Anaka is the pastor of a church is Ifite Oraifite community of Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The police in Anambra said he was arrested in Onitsha, with the state’s police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, saying that the case had been transferred to State CID Awka for discreet investigation.
“Following intelligence report, Police detectives attached to Central Police Station Onitsha in collaboration with Oraifite Division have arrested the murder suspect today 28/8/2019 in his hideout at Onitsha.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspect include a travelling bag and a knife reasonably suspected to have been used in perpetrating the act,” Mohammed said.
Anaka’s alleged act has shocked members of their family, neighbors and church members.
Phenomenal.com,ng learnt that his church members have been left in a disarray, while they are racking heads on what could have pushed their pastors to it.
Leaders in the community are said to be equally rattled as they particularly see Anaka’s action as an abomination.
Speaking on the case on Tuesday, the police had said:
“There was a report at Oraifite Division today 27/8/2019 at about 12:00pm that same date at about 6:am, one Nwabueze Anaka, aged about 30yrs of Umunakwa Oraifite, allegedly stabbed his mother one Grace Anaka ‘f’, aged about 50 years with a dagger and took to flight.
“Police detectives attached to the Division visited the scene, photographed and took the victim to the hospital where she was certified dead by the medical doctor after which corpse was deposited at the rest land morgue, Oraifite.
“Circumstances surrounding the incident is yet to be ascertained but the complainants alleged that the suspect is having some mental challenges.”
