A housewife, Laria Auwal, on Thursday prayed a Sharia Court ll, sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, to order her ex-husband, Auwal Attahir, who is a vagabond, to grant her custody of her two daughters.

Auwal, who resides at Mararaban Jos, Kaduna, told the court that her former husband never cared for her at the time she needed his assistance.

The petitioner informed the court that the defendant said she would not prosper if she ventured into any business during their marriage.

“He abandoned me me shortly after I was hospitalised for a surgery. I want the court to confirm the divorce and grant me custody of my two daughters, aged seven and three-and- a- half years.

Responding, Attahir, told the court that he only had a little misunderstanding with his former wife and she promised never to go back to his house.

“When I visited her in the hospital, after being operated on, she called me a bastard. I gave her money and she refused to accept.

”Her father promised she would return to my house but she refused.

“I had no option than to divorce her.

“I cannot pay for the upkeep of my two daughters. I am a wanderer. I travel a lot doing menial jobs to fend for my family.

After listening to both parties, the Judge, Murtala Nasir, ordered that the defendant to give custody of the two girls to their mother.

Nasir also ordered the defendant to cater to the needs of the children.
