An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday, sentenced a 28-year-old driver, Tobi Idowu, to three months in prison with hard labour for stealing a car battery valued at N30,000.

Magistrate S.K Matepo. sentenced Idowu, after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Matepo sentenced Idowu without an option to pay a fine.

“You are hereby sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour and without an option of fine.

“The sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to engage in similar acts,” she said.

At arraignment, the convict pleaded guilty, he blamed his action on the devil.

The convict pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the convict committed the offence on July 19 at Ogba, Ikeja.

He said that the convict stole the battery from a bus belonging to Mr Oladimeji Ishola.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
