Ex-Super Eagles, Taye Taiwo has made a case for is contemporary, Mikel, to play in Nigeria’s third place match against Tunisia.
The second to the last match in 2019 AFCON is holding in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
He said Coach Gernot Rohr needed Mikel as he would be able to check the pace of the opponents.
“You need someone who can hold ball. If you are playing a team like Tunisia and Egypt, you need a midfield that can hold the ball,” he said.
Taiwo also advised Nigerian football supporters and sponsors to always allow Eagles to finish a competition before promising them money.
According to him, this will attract distraction.
In an interview with Brila FM on Tuesday, Taiwo also urged the managers to keep the current crop of players, adding that they should also keep the coach which, he said, had done his best.
“The coach is not a bad one. Has been trying to fix things,” Taiwo said.
