UI confirms burglary of female hostel, says one of the security men was tied down

The authorities of the University of Ibadan have confirmed that a female hostel was burgled in the early hours of Friday.
Unlike an earlier report that it was an armed robbery attack, however, the authorities described it as a burglary incident, saying seven young men attacked the Obafemi Awolowo female hostel around 1 am.
The earlier report said the men were numbered about 10, fully armed.
The report had indicated, “Two girls were stabbed and another was said to have jumped from the third floor out of fear, another account says that a girl was kidnapped by these men and found later this morning. People were beaten and laptops, phones and other valuable carted away, most victims whose phones were stolen claimed the robbers even went as far as demanding their phone passwords, Apple ID login details and also their ATM card pins.”
In a statement issued by the UI management, it said the attackers tied one of the institutions security men to gain entrance into the hostel.
It said two students were injured and had been taken to the varsity’s heath centre..
It, however, added that the police in Oyo State were on top of the situation.

BURGLARY AT OBAFEI AWOLOWO HALL, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

There was a case of burglary at the Obafemi Awolowo Hall, one of the female halls of residence in the University.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 1.30 a.m. on 12th Friday July, 2019 when seven armed men aged about 15 – 20 years illegally entered the hall.

They accosted the security men on duty in the hall and tied one of them down. They thereafter jumped through the perimeter fence in the hall and burgled into one of the rooms. They carted away some valuables belonging to residents of the hall, including laptops and phones.

During the act, two students sustained minor injuries and they were subsequently hospitalised at the University Health Centre. They have since been treated and discharged.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police was contacted and he promptly reactedby sending his men to the scene of the incident. In addition, men of ‘Operation Burst’ also came to the hall.

The Nigerian Police is on top of the situation as they continue to unravel the cause and nature of the unfortunate incident and track the culprits.

Normalcy has since returned to the hall and the management of the University will spare no effort in securing the lives and properties on campus.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command Mr Sina Olukolu is highly appreciated for his personal intervention, usual support and understanding. He came personally to the scene of the incident and took time to address the students.
