Police arraign room attendant for allegedly stealing N52,000 from hotel guest

The police on Wednesday arraigned a room attendant, Nwachukwu Kingsley, in a Kabusa Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N52,000 from a hotel guest.

Kingsley, is charged with two counts of stealing and escape from lawful custody.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mahmud Lawal, told the court that on June 19, the complainant, Mr Nwachukwu Charles of Ayalla Hotel, Garki, reported the matter at the Garki Police station.

Lawal said that the complainant, who is the owner of Ayalla hotel, reported that Kingsley entered a guest’s room and stole N52,000.

He also alleged that while the police was conveying the defendant to his house for a search, he escaped from police custody.

Lawal, further, said Kingsley was re-arrested some days later.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 289 and 173 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Kagarko ordered that the surety must be must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The judge also ordered that the surety must deposit a valid means of identification as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned until Aug. 7, for trial.
