A non governmental Organisation (NGO) operating under the aegis of Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC) on Wednesday urged public servants to begin to patronise government-owned institutions.
Chief Ugochukwu Nnam, President of the Group, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that only patronage of government-owned institutions by public servants could sustain their jobs.
Nnam explained that public institutions should not be allowed to go moribund in order to keep public servants relevant.
“The more public servants patronise private institutions such as schools and hospitals, they more government loses money.
“And this in a kind of value chain would affect them because government may go broke which can lead to down sizing,” he said.
The ILDC President restated the imperatives of patronising government-owned institutions, saying that their services were qualitative.
According to him, public servants should be wise enough in order to keep their jobs so as to be relevant in the system.
Nnam explained that it was time to return to public schools and hospitals especially by public servants to restore the contract of government with the people.
NAN reports that private institutions are fast taking over the services of government-owned institutions in several sectors.
