An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Dare Ajayi, to one month imprisonment for stealing an air conditioner worth N55,000.
The Magistrate, Mr Olakunleyin Oke sentenced Ajayi after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of break in and stealing.
Oke however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Balogun Lawrence told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 14 at 5:30 a,m. at Adigbe area of Abeokuta.
Lawerence said the defendant broke into the shop of one Mr Alayaki Femi and stole the air conditioner.
He said the defendant was apprehended by a vigilante officer, who saw him trying to sell the stolen item.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Section 390(9) and 414 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
