Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director, Leonardo, has confirmed that Neymar “can leave” the club amid intense speculation linking him with a return to Barcelona.
Leonardo says it is “clear to everyone” what the Brazil star’s desire is and admits there has been “superficial” contact with Barcelona.
PSG had said it would take actions against Neymar after he failed to turn up for pre-season training.
“It’s clear to everyone [he wants to leave]. But in football, you say one thing today and tomorrow another … It’s amazing but it’s like that.
“The position is clear for all. But one thing is concrete today: he still has three years of contract with us. And since we have not received an offer, we cannot discuss anything.
“We have not received any offers. But we had, it’s true, very superficial contacts [from Barcelona]. They said they wanted to buy but we were not sellers,” Leonardo said.
Neymar has scored 44 goals in Ligue 1 since making the move from Barcelona.
