The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said that Nigeria’s democracy would become secured and operative only when the opposition stood United.
Mr Adeyemi Azeez, National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said that they must see themselves as the only available force to progressively challenge and check the ruling party.
Azeez, while also congratulating the new minority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, urged him to lead by example.
“NANS make bold to say that democracy becomes secured and operative when the opposition stands united.
“Thereby seeing themselves as the only formidable force to progressively challenge, check and call the ruling party to order, else, activities of government may be selfishly and sectionally projected.
“NANS also call on the leadership of PDP within and outside the National Assembly to join hands with the new minority leader, in the interest of the country’s democracy.
“NANS implores the leadership of the house to demand for immediate compilation and forwarding of ministerial list from President Muhammadu Buhari, for necessary legislative duties.”
Azeez further urged the speaker of the house, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to ensure that the 9th Assembly was more result oriented and serves the interest of the people.
