A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Monday, ordered the remand of a 28-year-old businessman, Sunusi Jibril, who allegedly defiled an eight-year-old girl.
Jibril who lives at Zangon Barebari Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano, is facing a count charge of rape to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Jibril adjourned the matter until Aug.19 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Juwairyya Dauda of Danrimi Quarters Kano, reported the matter at Ungogo Police Division on July 11.
He said that on July 10 at about 12:00pm, the accused acosted the complainant’s 8-year-old daughter while she was on errand at Zangon Barebari Quarters Kano.
Lale alleged that the accused deceitfully led the victim to his house and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her and offered her the sum of N200.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 283 of the penal code.
