As many Nigerians heave a sigh of relief following Super Eagles’ narrow win oven Burundi in Saturday’s nation Cup match, the team’s coach and Captain – Gernot Rohr an Mikel Obi – have confessed that the match was a tough one.
They, however, separately noted that the Burundian side were tough, attributing the situation to eventuality and technicality.
The coach noted that the Super Eagles could not deliver as optimally as envisioned due to what he called a virus attack suffered by some of the players.
He said in an interview, “It was definitely a tough match and we are happy to have gotten the result. We had some challenges with virus attack that knocked out some of the players, but I believe we will get better with every match.”
On his part, Mikel said the Burundian team was a hard nut to crack.
“It was indeed a tough match. We played a compact team that was not easy to break into,” he added.
Many soccer prophets said Nigeria would et as many as four goals but the only saving grace never came until the 77th minute through substitute by gallant Odeon Ighalo.
