The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to cultivate the habit of patronising made-in-Nigeria goods and services for the growth and development of the nation’s economy.

Mrs Yomi Olasinde, the Osun Director of the agency, made the call during a sensitisation programme on Friday in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sensitisation programme was tagged “Patronise Made-in-Nigeria Products and Services.”

Olasinde said the economy of a nation could only grow when locally made goods and services were promoted through patronage by the citizens.

” The major problems of Nigeria’s economy are over-dependence on imported goods which weakens the currency, creates unemployment and consistently reduces the Gross Domestic Product,” she said.

Olasinde said by patronising local products, the nation would become self-reliant economically, adding that Nigerians must change their orientation about foreign products.

Also speaking, Mr Olawuyi Samuel, a representative of Standards Organisation of Nigeria(SON) also urged Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria products which meet standards to encourage local producers and create jobs.

Mr Gboyega Olowoporoku , a representative of the state Ministry of Agriculture Food and Security, urged Nigerians to embrace farming to drive the economy.
