The G57 group, a Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has expressed its support for the second term agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Solomon Ikhioda, the communications director of the group, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
The group commended the speech delivered by the President at the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations.
Ikhioda said that the president’s speech was “ideologically identical” to the strategy of the G57 group which focused on driving prosperity, unity and peace in Nigeria.
“The Prosperity, Unity and Peace in Nigeria are a strategic ideal that G57 refers to in its ideology as `PUP Culture’.
“The democracy day speech provides strong evidence that the President’s pronouncements tallies with our ideology, especially in his stated focus on putting the best Nigerians into key positions.
“We therefore felt persuaded to support an agenda that will return Nigeria to its rightful place as a credible leader of the African continent and as a respected nation, coveted partner around the globe,” he said.
Ikhioda advised Buhari to utilise economic empowerment, grassroots education in democracy, youth, women and entrepreneurial inclusion as well as leadership development as key planks of the president’s strategy to improve leadership at all levels in the country.
He said when implemented, the president’s agenda, purpose and initiatives would “dramatically reduce corruption, improve individual freedoms and the quality of life of Nigerians”.
Ikhioda assured that the group would support the president to facilitate the emergence of the best breed in leadership positions across all spheres of the nation; from the public sector to the private sector.
“G57 aspires to support and facilitate the growth of Nigeria’s economy to $4 trillion in 8 years, while contributing intellectual and policy advisory capacity to assist in the institutionalisation of critical values of prosperity, unity and peace.
“These we see as nationally acceptable cultural metrics for ascending political and business leadership in Nigeria,’’ he said.
He expressed optimism that the president’s agenda would facilitate the emergence of a strong nation founded on strong institutions and the rule of law; a nation that is peaceful, united, prosperous and respected around the world.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the G57 is a nonpartisan organisation that exists to serve as a springboard for economic inclusion, leadership engagement and grassroots mobilisation for positive development in Nigeria.
The Group includes an original membership of fifty seven accomplished professionals including members of UBS Nigeria, global airline pilots, global finance executives, former Nigerian military generals and Nigerian private sector executives.
