Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Mahamat, on Monday strongly condemned the violence in Sudan.
“The Chairperson strongly condemns the violence that erupted today, which led to reported deaths and several civilian injuries.
“Chairperson of the 55-member pan African bloc also “called for an immediate and transparent investigation in order to hold those all responsible accountable,’’ the AU said in a statement issued.
Faki further called on the Transitional Military Council (TMC) of Sudan “to protect the civilians from further harm.’’
The AU Chairperson made the urgent call hours after an allegation by Sudanese opposition groups and unofficial institutions that military force attacked the sit-in area amid intensive gun fire.
Spokesman of Sudan’s Transitional Military Council (TMC), Shams-Eddin Kabashi denied news on dispersing the sit-in in central Khartoum.
Protesters are demanding that the country’s TMC hand over power to civilians.
The TMC is tasked with running the country’s affairs following the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir.
