It is now an offence for any man to marry just one or two women in Swaziland.
Leader of the country, King Mswati II, has declared that, from June this year, every man must marry at least two wives, with more preferred.
Mswati was quoted as saying that any man who disobeys the order would face life sentence.
The king himself has 15 wives and 25 children, while his father and predecessor boasted more than 70 wives and 150.
According to him, there are more women than men in Swaziland, a situation , he said, was very serious problem for the country.
‘IHarare’ added that the king had promised whoever married up to five wives would get funding for marriage ceremonies and houses from government.
