Ace artiste, Burna Boy, almost went on his knees in Lagos on Saturday as he pleaded with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to release his two colleagues – Naira Marley and Zlatan – who have been in its custody since four days ago.
They are being investigated for alleged connection with Internet fraudsters called Yahoo Yahoo boys.
Although, unlike some artistes, Burna Boy neither declared for nor against Yahoo activities, which Marley has openly endorsed, he wants them out arguably for business reasons.
He missed them sorely at a show he had in Lagos, and this prompted him to howl, “You see now, no Zanku for my show today. My day is ruined. A beg, @official EFCC, make you release the guys.”
The EFCC had said that it arrested the two fast-rising artistes, Afeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley) and Temidayo Omoniyi (aka Zlatan) in connection with alleged cases of Internet fraud and money laundering.
The EFCC acting Head, Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, in a statement, said intelligence report had also linked them to cybercrime offences.
Orilade added that the artistes were arrested along with three other suspects, Tiamiu Abdulrahman, Adewunmi Adeyanju and Musa Abubakar, following an early morning raid at 9, Gbangbola Street, Ikate, Lekki, Lagos.
“At the point of arrest, the Commission found and recovered a number of items, including laptops from the suspects. They have so far volunteered useful information about their involvement in the alleged criminal activities, even as investigations continue,” the statement said.
