The Egba Traditional Council in Ogun has accused the Olota-in-Council of falsifying history and misinforming the public.
The Council, which spoke through High Chief Layi Labode, the Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland, said on Friday in Abeokuta that this could cause disaffection among the people.
The Olota-in-council, through the Seriki of Ota, Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, had on May 15 accused the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, of trying to impose some Obas “who had no historical and biological link with the Aworis nor affiliation to its kingship institution.”
Labode, however, said that the Alake would never impose any Oba or chief on any community or people.
According to him, the issue in the council’s statement called for more education and enlightenment on who has authority on the villages in the peninsula referred to as the “Gbalefa”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the villages in the Gbalefa peninsula include Sango, Atan, Ijoko, Abule Lemomu, Oke-ore and Adekoyeni.
He said that Ota historically, administratively and through the right of conquest of 1841, fell under Egba administration as part of Egbaland, adding that the Alake remained the consenting authority.
Labode said the Olota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, himself was aware of this having been installed under the same declaration.
” That’s why we’re worried that somebody who calls himself Olota-in-council would be twisting the truth.
“The so called spokesman of the Olota-in-council misdirected himself when he said that the Gbalefa peninsula was not in the Egbaland.
” All, without exception, the court’s decisions on all issues brought against Alake’s position in all Egba physical and geographical areas reconfirmed the legal and traditional jurisdiction of Egbaland.
“The out outcome of this cases have settled for all time and beyond reasonable doubts, the legal authority of the Alake of Egbaland to administer traditional oversight in all areas the Bashorun mentioned in his superfluity.
“We have won all case up to Supreme Court level and we want peace to reign. We do not subscribe to war as the Bashorun is calling for,” he said.
