The retrogression that has befallen Manchester United has more or less turned their star player, Paul Pogba, to an expert at apologising.
About three days after he apologised to fans following 4-0 walloping by Everton, he was again on his knees on Wednesday after Man City beat them 2-0., a result that has largely moved the latter towards the Promised Land of the EPL glory for 2019.
Pogba issued the apology in front of Manchester United’s supporters immediately after their defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford last night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were looking to bounce back after their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
And United showed signs of encouragement in the first half against the Premier League champions as Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to open the scoring.
But City stepped up a gear after the break and Bernardo Silva’s low strike beat David De Gea at his near post to put the visitors in front in the 54th minute.
Jesse Lingard missed a glorious chance to equalise for United moments later and Solskjaer’s side were subsequently punished as Leroy Sane doubled City’s lead about 20 minutes to the end of the match. Lukaku, Sanchez and Martial were later brought in the later stages of the encounter, but their input could not yield even a face-saving goal. Man City had better possessions of the ball as the red devils wasted the few opportunities that came their way.
The result has turned both Man U and their coash to the punching bag and observers would say they really deserve this.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decline after being confirmed as coach has practically exhumed the fate that bedevilled his predecessor Jose Mourhino, who could not sustain the Man U ideal in terms of performance.
