Modernity submitted to tradition when the body of one of the two students of the Benue State University, Kolade Christopher, who drowned in the River Benue at the weekend, alongside a colleague, was buried at the bank of the river.
The decision to bury him there has generated a lot of controversy, with many arguing that it was outrageous.
But the institution’s Student’s Union President, Kisito Joseph, has said that the step was taken to avert recurrence in Kolade’s family.
He said in a statement that the deceased was an Idoma and that that was the tradition
He added that Kolade’s parents also knew the import of the tragedy and so they ‘refused’ to collect his body.
Pathetic! Student’s Union speaks on drowned colleague buried at the bank of River Benue
