Yesterday’s night’s defeat to seventh place Wolveshampton Wanderers at the Molineux was the second loss suffered by United to the former sincethe current manager, Ole Gunner Solskjaer took over as manager of the Red Devil’s.
Recall the same Wolves ousted Man. United in the quarter finals stage of the English FA cup, earlier in the year. Last night’s defeat was also the third suffered by Solskjaer in his last four games in the current campaign.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s result dealt a big blow to United’s chances of making the top four and earn herself a slot in next year’s Uefa champions league. An equalising goal from Diogo Jota in the 25th minute and own goal by Man. U defender, Chris Smalling in the 77th minute sealed the game for the home side.
Earlier, a curtain raiser by S Mc Tominay in the 13th minute was not enough to brighten the chances of the visitors ahead of next year’s champions league.
With the defeat to Wolves, United, currently on 61 points from 31 matchesoccupies the fifth position on the log behind Arsenal , 63 points and Totenham Hospur, 61 points with both teams having an outstanding match each.
As the league winds down and with seven matches left, United’s top four ambition is also being threatened by Chelsea which, though in the sixth position, on 60 points, may overtake Man U if she wins tonight’s fixture against Brighton Howe Albion.
