Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has said that the newly inaugurated Lagos Theatre in Oregun, Ikeja, will power the aspiration of the people in the creative industry.
The theatre was opened alongside other facilities on Wednesday during a visit to Lagos by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the event, Ambode noted that the theatre was conceived as a strategy to absorb many Lagosians with the ability to be innovative and imaginative, especially the youths, as well as provide a platform for artistic expressions in film making, stage theater, poetry, dance, music and other stage performances.
This, according to him, will also set the stage for theatre experience in four strategic locations across the state.
‘’The Lagos Theatre located at Oregun and replicated in other areas of the state which include Igando, Epe and Badagry in its first phase, is to expand arts and performance spaces in Lagos and promote a thriving creative economy within the communities where these projects are located,” he said.
He also stated that the Lagos State Government’s initiative to bring theatre experience closer to more neighborhoods across the state would generate positive excitement among the teeming youths.
The theatre, like the others in Igando, Epe and Badagry, will, sit more than 400 audience comfortably with a standard furnishing, a gallery, artiste changing room, rehearsal hall, restaurant space, rest rooms, alternative power generating sets and a well-laid out car park.
Also at the inauguration were some members of the Federal Executive Council, presidential aides and governors Ibikunle Amosu, Ogun State; Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo State; Isiaka Ajimobi and Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti states, as well as the Governor-elect of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.
