Some residents of Shadadi and Lanto communities in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have appealed to the council’s Chairman-elect, Mr Ibrahim Sabo, to make rehabilitation of Lanto Road a priority.
The residents, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje on Wednesday, said that Lanto Road was the only road linking the communities.
Mr Olumoh Sharafadeen, a resident and Chairman of Road Committee in Shadadi Community, said that the road had been a source of concern to the people especially during the rainy season.
Sharafadeen said that the intervention of the chairman-elect in the rehabilitation of the road would alleviate the suffering of residents of the communities.
“We have made several efforts to get the attention of successive chairmen of the council to rehabilitate the road, but it did work out due to lack of political will.
“For the chairman-elect, he promised during his campaign that the road will be one of his priority projects if elected.
“We have taken him by his words and have massively voted for him because the incumbent chairman had failed to deliver on his campaign promises,” he said.
Mr Mohammed Yachi, a resident of Shadadi, also called for the prompt intervention of the chairman-elect in the rehabilitation of the road.
Yachi expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of successive administrations of Kuje Area Council to execute the project in spite of reminders by residents of the communities.
He urged the chairman-elect to keep his campaign promises by rehabilitating the road in the interest of residents, students and pupils of the schools located along the road.
Mr Samuel Danladi, another resident of Lanto community, said that the experience of residents of the communities during the 2018’s rainy season was pathetic.
Danladi called on the chairman-elect, to come to the aid of residents of the communities, to avert the experience of the last rainy season.
Sabo, PDP candidate, defeated the incumbent, Abdullahi Galadima of APC, in the Feb. 23 FCT Area Council election.
