Comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy has won Ukraine’s presidential election with 73% of the vote and has vowed to root out corruption.
Zelenskiy beat Petro Poroshenko by a landslide winning just 25% of the votes.
After Poroshenko’s defeat on Sunday he would be leaving office next month.
“I’m leaving office, but I want to make it clear that I’m not leaving politics,” he said.
The 41-year-old Zelenskiy, who plays a president in a popular TV series, thanked his wife, parents and campaign team after the exit poll was released.
“We did it together.
“Thanks to all the Ukrainian citizens who voted for me, and to all who didn’t: I promise I won’t mess up.”
He also pledged to end the war in the eastern Donbass region and to root out corruption over soaring prices and falling living standards.
