I fired up. I don’t know how the shot hit him – Policeman who killed Kolade Johnson

One of the two policemen arrested for killing a youth in Lagos, Kolade Johnson, has said that he never intended to kill him.
According to Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan, he shot in the air and he did not aim the gun at Kolade, who was killed around the place he was watching the Liverpool-Tottenham match on Sunday.
He said on Tuesday as he repeatedly used the back of his hand to clear tears from his eyes, “On getting there, we saw some group of boys smoking hemp. When we tried to arrest them, they mobbed us – me and my boys. In trying to escape them, I fired up. I don’t know how it hit him. I only fired once.”
Meanwhile, a man who said he was standing beside Kolade, identified as Nana, however, said the policeman fired twice and that he pointed his gun at them.
Nana said the deceased did not say anything to the police when they were trying to arrest a neighbour, Folorunso Ismail, who was likely to have attracted the security men’s curiosity because of his dreadlocks.
The eyewitness said he was the one who raised his voice when Ismail was being quizzed and harassed by Olalekan and Segeant Godwin Orji.
Also giving an account in an interview with ‘Channels Television’, Ismail said he did not resist arrest when the SACS men accosted him.
“I just told them to tell me where their office (station) was so that I could tell my people to know where they could find me,” he said.
