The Gombe Governor-elect, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, has inaugurated transition committee to ensure a smooth handover ceremony in the state on May 29.
The committee is to be headed by Alhaji Mohammed Kabiru, former Director-General, Pensions Commission, while Alhaji Zubairu Umar would serve as Secretary.
The governor-elect, who inaugurated the committee on Tuesday in Gombe, also inaugurated 23 other sectorial committees.
Speaking during the inauguration, the governor-elect, said the terms of reference of the transition committee include: to develop a clear framework and liaise with the outgoing administration for the purpose of smooth handover and takeover.
It is also to assess the quality and accuracy of information provided to it and advise the governor-elect accordingly.
The committee is to review and make preliminary assessment of the balance sheets of the state government with particular emphasis on the state’s status of assets and liabilities.
He said the transition committee will also suggest quick fixes, which will result in tangible and noticeable changes to be achieved within the first 100 days of the administration.
The governor-elect said the 23 sectorial committees were constituted to cover the 27 ministries in the state and were to devise useful means of moving the sectors forward.
Yahaya said the transition and sectorial committees are expected to submit their reports to the governor-elect within three weeks from the day of inauguration.
He said the committees were neither probe panel nor meant to witch hunt anybody.
“It is certainly not an audit panel,” he explained.
He further called on the outgoing administration and all government officials to cooperate with the committees in the overall interest of the state.
Responding, Kabir thanked the governor-elect for finding them worthy to serve the state.
“Although, it is not going to be an easy task but we will do our best to come out with useful suggestions and recommendations for smooth transition,” he said.
In his remarks, Alhaji Danjuma Goje, APC leader in Gombe, said the committee members were appointed based on their track record of integrity.
He appealed to those that were qualified but not appointed into any committee to be patient, saying that more assignments are still on the way.
